Berlin Christmas Market

This is the city for those who truly want to experience the magical fantasy that is Christmas.  In fact, just as Berlin is Germany’s political capital, it is also its Christmas Market Capital. There are so many different market atmospheres available at different locations, from lively to contemplative, from magical to urban, that you are sure to find something you like among Berlin’s no less than sixty Christmas Markets.  These are just a few of the many highlights Berlin has to offer.

– A Christmas Market is held directly in front of Charlottenburg Castle heavily featuring the Biedermeier period.  This market features theme exhibits within the palace as well as historic carriage rides.  It also packed with stalls selling a range of festive gifts, decorations, craft items and tasty treats.

– The WeihnachtsZauber is a classic Market in one of Europe’s most beautiful squares.

–  One of the newer Markets is held at the Brandenburg Gate and features a heady international mix of Christmas customs from many countries including Great Britain, the United States and France.

– The Spandau Christmas market is a must for those who want to experience the Old City. Around 250 stalls operate there from Monday to Friday, rising to 400 once the weekend arrives.  There is the chance to see a nativity scene featuring live animals, as well as an impressive giant Christmas tree.  Free concerts will take place there each weekend, as well as festive children’s events and activities.

–  A Christmas Market on Potsdamer Platz sits on Sony Centre’s 4,000 square metre display area and features “Boccia on Ice” as well as the nearby Legoland Discovery Centre.

–  If you tastes are a little less raucous, a quiet, subdued Market sits on the Alte Potsdamer Strasse, which features, among other things, Winter World and Europe’s biggest mobile toboggan run.
